Notifications

Choose which emails eSignStack sends for a workspace, and which your own app sends instead.

Owners and admins manage these in Settings → Notifications. The settings apply to every envelope in the workspace unless an envelope sets its own.

Delivery problems

Delivery problems is on by default. When a signing invitation or reminder can't be delivered, the sender gets one email for that recipient. It says which address failed and why:

  • The address couldn't receive the email.
  • The recipient's email provider blocked the message.
  • The email provider rejected the message.

The envelope also shows Email not delivered with the reason on the recipient's row. Correct the email address and resend from the envelope. If the new address fails too, the sender gets another notice.

Turn the toggle off to stop these emails. The status on the envelope still shows. The email is also skipped when Delivery problem notice below is set to Host application.

Who sends which email

Each email type has a setting:

  • eSignStack (default): eSignStack sends the email, except in the cases under Automatic defaults.
  • eSignStack: eSignStack always sends the email.
  • Host application: eSignStack sends nothing. The event is still recorded, webhooks still fire, and your app can send its own message and open the signing page with a signing session.
Setting Email
Signing requests The email that asks a recipient to sign, approve or acknowledge
Reminders Follow-ups to recipients who haven't finished
Next signer The email sent when it's the next recipient's turn in a signing order
Completed copy to recipients The completed documents, sent to signers, approvers and acknowledging recipients
Completed copy to CC The completed documents, sent to Gets a copy recipients
Completion notice to sender The email to the sender when an envelope completes
Delivery problem notice The delivery-problem email described above
Declined notice The email to the sender when a recipient declines, with their reason
Voided notice The email to recipients when the sender voids an envelope, with the reason, and to the sender when someone else voids theirs

Declines and voids also show on the envelope and are sent as webhook events.

Select Save when you're done.

Automatic defaults

When a setting is on eSignStack (default):

  • Recipients signing in person don't get signing requests, reminders or completed copies by email.
  • An envelope created through the API with emails turned off uses Host application for every email.
  • Embedded recipients, who sign only in your app, never get signing requests, reminders, next-signer emails or "document updated" emails, whatever the setting. Their completed copy and void notices follow the settings.

Choosing eSignStack or Host application overrides the first two. See the Envelopes API and Embedded signing.
